Open-Air Movie Theater in Istanbul

After hearing lots of compliments about Christopher Nolan's latest movie titled Inception, I decided to go see the movie. I somehow made it to Kurucesme Arena with my friends and cousins, which ended up with being one of the best movie experiences for me. Although Inception didn't meet my expectations, the idea of seeing a movie with the magnificent view of Bosphorus is undeniably amazing - and it gets even better if you could smoke, drink a beer while Nolan is forcing the limits of your brain. The movie night was sponsored by Turkcell which is the most popular telecommunication company in Turkey. The open-air audio system was surprisingly satisfactory, thanks to many concerts hosted there. The tickets were pretty cheap - 5 TL (€2) each if your service provider is Turkcell. At the end of the night, I wished I hadn't had to pay 5 TL for mineral water (which actually was the same price as the ticket). Hearing the explosions of fireworks from the weddings around was not the best experience while watching a movie, either. However, it was worth going for sure. Lesson learned - bring your glasses (since it's pretty packed and you need to read the subtitles from far behind) and get a beer instead of a mineral water next time. Still not sure what to do about the fireworks of the weddings, though.

Anniversary of the date when the humanity died on the 6th of the 8th month in1945.

Not much to say about today. Everybody is well aware of the things happened exactly 65 years ago - the things that are proven by the photos, the photos of dead children, which still disgust me, insult humankind, scare children.. The poem of Nazım Hikmet - one of the brightest poets of Turkish literature, depicts this crime against humanity the best:

The Little Girl

I am the one knocking on the doors,
Knocking one by one...
I can not be seen to your eyes,
The dead can not be seen by eyes.

Since I died in Hiroshima,
It has already been ten years.
I am seven years old as I was so,
The dead children do not grow.

My hair caught fire first,
Then my eyes were parched...
Into a handful of ash I became,
And I got scattered in the air.

Nothing I would ask from you,
Ask from you, for myself...
The girl can't even eat candies,
The girl whom burns like papers.

Madam, Sir! I'm knocking on your doors,
All I ask for is just one signature!
Help the children not be killed,
So that they could eat candies..

Kız Çocuğu

Kapıları çalan benim,
Kapıları birer birer.
Gözünüze görünemem,
Göze görünmez ölüler.

Hiroşima'da öleli,
Oluyor bir on yıl kadar.
Yedi yaşında bir kızım,
Büyümez ölü çocuklar.

Saçlarım tutuştu önce,
Gözlerim yandı kavruldu.
Bir avuç kül oluverdim,
Külüm havaya savruldu.

Benim sizden kendim için
Hiçbir şey istediğim yok.
Şeker bile yiyemez ki
Kâat gibi yanan çocuk.

Çalıyorum kapınızı,
Teyze, amca, bir imza ver.
Çocuklar öldürülmesin,
Şeker de yiyebilsinler.

Why am I back?

It has been a while since the last time I wrote on my blog. When I moved to Sweden in January for 6 months, I decided to open a new page in my life and start all over. However, I never thought I would have "zero" time in Sweden for my blog. When I was reading the article about advice for Computer Science students, I came up with a sentence and this was the time that I decided to be back. It was, "The more you write, the easier it will be, and the easier it is to write, the more you'll write, in a virtuous circle." by Joel Spolsky.

Wish me luck!
